Coilguns / Never Void: Split

12/11/12  ||  gk

Split between 2 hardcore bands and its pretty good. Both bands get 2 studio tracks and 2 live tracks on this release. Coilguns are first off, sounding a bit like a lightweight Botch at times. Opener “Mandarin Hornet” is 7 minutes long and makes no sense (even in the chaotic hardcore way) but “Dewar flasks” is pretty solid. Never Void is a bit more metallic in nature and closer to Trap Them in terms of their chaotic assault. Both their songs are pretty badass. Then it’s the turn of the live recordings and both bands sound pretty great. The recording quality is fair but the hardcore energy is on full display here and the two Coilguns songs narrowly beat the 2 Never Void songs. So this is a pretty tasty little split if you like some chaotic hardcore/ metalcore and Coilguns and Never Void both come out of this with some solid credibility.

7/10: Short, sharp and quite vicious.
